What is Counselling

Issues and concerns

Personal difficulties can arise unexpectedly or you might find yourself struggling with issues that seem insurmountable. This can leave you feeling confused, vulnerable and sometimes stuck. These feelings might be difficult to understand and impact on your behaviour and engagement with others.  Life experiences and early years development all have an impact on our behaviour and it sometimes takes exploring these further to establish links to your current issues.

It's good to talk

Talking to someone who is non-judgemental and provides an accepting, confidential, warm environment to explore your concerns.  This unique meeting space and relationship makes it a safe place to share your thoughts and feelings around your current issues.    Working together the sessions should give you some understanding and relief from your symptoms; Using different approaches the counsellor will guide, support and work with you focusing on your personal therapy goals.

The counselling relationship

The counselling relationship is key in helping you feel comfortable to share your thoughts and feelings.  It is important for you to chose a counsellor that is right for you.   I offer a free, no obligation introduction session prior to starting therapy.

Relational therapy

Relational therapy looks to improve communication and resolve any issues within a close relationship.  We work on understanding how external factors, family and lifestyle can affect the relationship with arguing or not being able to resolve conflict to move forward.

About Me

My name is Sarah from Harpers Therapy and I have been providing counselling and psychotherapy since 2012.

Counselling is my second career and prior to running my own private practice and becoming a mum, I worked in the corporate world as a PA in project management and the world of behavioural market research.

I am an integrative counsellor, which means I use a variety of approaches dependent on your individual needs.  With over 15 years of experience and ongoing professional development, I can tailor your sessions to meet your unique therapeutic goals.

The environment and service I offer is confidential, safe and a non-judgemental space for you to talk about your life and explore areas of concern that may be difficult, painful or confusing for you.

I offer short and long term counselling and like to review regularly.  Regular reviews give the opportunity to ensure the counselling relationship is working and we are focussed on the right area and working at the right pace.   I work with young people, adults and couples.

I have also worked with large corporate occupational health services and agencies providing support for public and private sector clients.

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).  I work to their Ethical Framework which provides guidelines for working safely and ethically within a counselling relationship.

I work with a variety of presenting issues some being:

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Anger and panic
  • Low self esteem
  • Grief and loss
  • Abuse
  • OCD and other anxiety disorders
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Addiction and eating disorders
  • Neurodiversity
  • Relationships

I work from central Bicester, Oxfordshire and Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

I offer a free 20 minute introduction session, which gives us the opportunity to meet, have a conversation and understand more about how we could work together.
